JULIA MEI FEGELMAN
范子雅
My current research involves our connection to the places we’ve been and lived within, and I am exploring this through small bodies of nature and the nostalgia they can invoke. I am actively pushing the boundaries between our bodies and what they hold, alongside the concept of “biophilia,” which suggests that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. Through machine-free tattooing, my work places ephemeral ideas into our skin to give them corporeality and a physical space to exist. From here, the tattoos age as our bodies do, but the memories never leave us. These explorations take on an organic form, one which reflects the bruises, marks, and scars of our souls moving through life.
My undergraduate thesis, “Pine,” will be exhibited in the Grunwald Gallery from November 29th, 2022 - December 10th, 2022.

I continue to work as a student in the Graphic Design BFA program at Indiana University Bloomington. I plan to graduate in the spring of 2023.
